Windows XP Weekly maintenance Instructions

1. Go to My Computer, right click on the "C" Drive, go to properties, Click on Disk Cleanup, put a check mark in all the boxes and then Click on Ok.

2. Click on the Tools tab and then click on the "Check Now" button
Under Error-Checking and then put a check mark in both boxes and Click ok. It will then tell you that it will run after you restart your computer so then go to start, restart and then Scan Disk will run when the computer restarts when that is done then you go back to My Computer, right click on the "C" drive and go to properties and then go back to the Tools Tab.

3. Disk Defragmenter is next click on the disk Defragment now button And make sure your C drive is highlighted then click on Defragment And it will analyze your drive and then defrag it and when it is all done your done.

4. Norton Virus Shield check open your Norton and check your dates and make sure your Virus Definitions are up to date and that your Scan is up to date.

5. Right click on Internet Explorer, click on the delete History, and click on the delete cookies and click on the delete files do this weekly.

Weekly Maintenance Sheet

1. Empty Temporary Internet Files – Go to My Computer, right click on C Drive, go to Properties, click on Disk Cleanup, put check marks in all the Boxes and click ok and then yes. This will empty your entire temporary Internet files and your recycle bin, etc.

2. Close out your screen saver – Go to a blank spot on your desktop and Right click and then go to properties, then to screen saver, click on the Drop down arrow and click on none then click apply and ok.

3. Then close out all your programs on the bottom right hand corner, right Click on them and click on close. Then do a Ctrl, Alt, Delete at the same Time and close everything except Explorer, hit end task, then do Ctrl, Alt, Delete again until everything is closed. Then click on the Tools tab in C properties and click on Check Now under Error-checking status, which Is the Scan Disk and make sure that thorough and automatically fix errors Is checked and then start the scan.

4. When Scan Disk is finished then go back to My Computer, right click On the C drive and go to properties and then go to the Tools tab and then Run the Disk Defragmenter. When you're done then reboot your computer And all of your programs will come back up normally.

5. Norton Virus Shield will automatically scan for viruses on Friday nights At 8:00 pm and it will automatically update your virus definitions when It detects your Internet connection. Please do not stop it when it performs these tasks.

6. Right click on Internet Explorer go to properties then click on Delete Cookies, Delete Temporary Internet Files, Clear History.
